about
There are a lot of bands in punk rock nowadays -- big bands, the ones who play summer stages and huge rock clubs -- that will say things like "we all need to stand together." This usually leads to a bunch of doofuses hugging each other. A lot of times this is followed with some apolitical mumbo jumbo about "we hate all politicians!" and "we don't care what you believe!"
And that's a great idea -- in theory. But I live in the real world. And in the real world, there are racists, sexists, homophobes and literal fucking Nazis running around.
So you can quote that fucking Operation Ivy song all you want, but if you let these motherfuckers run around without taking a stand? You're a straight-up poser. (MD)
lyrics
I live in the real world
With the good, the bad and the Nazis.
Some bridges should be burned.
Allow me to light the fucking match.
"We're in this together,"
At least that's what I'm told.
But I should've known better
Than to trust commercial rock-'n'-roll.
If this is "punk rock," you can count me out.
If this is "underground," can someone dig me out?
There's no such thing as "unity."
There's no such thing as "unity."
And if we're gonna make it,
There ain't no time to hide
Because this may be the fight of our lives.
I live in the real world
And you're not fucking welcome.
Roll up the red carpet.
This is time for taking sides.
We're in this together
But you're tearing us apart.
Collapse under the pressure
Instead of speaking from the heart.
If this is "punk rock," you can count me out.
If this is "underground," can someone dig me out?
There's no such thing as "unity."
There's no such thing as "unity."
And if we're gonna make it,
There ain't no time to hide
Because this may be the fight of our lives.
I live in the real world
With the good, the bad and the Nazis.
I live in the real world
With the good, the bad and the Nazis.
I live in the real world
With the good, the bad and the Nazis.
And this may be the fight of our lives.
I live in the real world.

What a damn solid record! It's the perfect example of why I'm certain that Ska Punk is going to play on the highlight reel when I hit up the afterlife. Scott
